By Emily Bice
Directed by Cameron King
Raf and Katie are in a toxic situationship (whether they know it or not), and they've just broken up AT THE LIBERTY INN: the last quickie motel in Manhattan. As the duo desperately avoids the end, they morph into different fantasy role-play scenarios of who they COULD be in this room, only to discover that they don't work no matter who, what, or when they are. At the Liberty Inn was workshopped at the Seven House Gallery Residency in 2023.
Emily Bice is a Brooklyn-based writer born in Michigan, but with family in Canada - so on paper she’s the nicest person you’ll ever meet. Emily graduated from The University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. She has worked as an olive oil farmer, press correspondent at Cannes, and in television, but her favorite job is writer.
Emily focuses on telling female-driven stories that spark change beyond the page, often exploring how we navigate love and life in the 21st century. These themes have taken her to a fishmonger, inspired meditations on dating, and even led to rollerblading a marathon. She’s not precious about form; she’s down to clown whether it’s a play, a podcast, an essay, or even a freestyle rap.
Her written work can be found on her Substack, 129 Ways to Get a Life. As a playwright, her credits include before the flood (The Chain Theatre, NYC), Purgatory (developmental workshop, Ann Arbor, MI), See You In A Few (one act, the thing theatre company, Zoom). In television, she has contributed to The 100, The Boys, One Day at a Time, and With Love.
